Stone Belt Divisions :  Milestones Clinical & Health Resources

How It Works

Neighborhoods are assigned a twice-monthly date when Stone Belt clients and staff collect non-perishable food donations and deliver them to area food banks. Donors place their contributions in special bags outside their homes. Stone Belt leaves empty bags with reminder cards that list the next date for pick up, and will even send email reminders the day before.

Program Statistics

    • Hand in Hand collected over 11,000 lbs of food in 2009.
• Currently more than 200 households participate in over 15 neighborhoods in Bloomington and three surrounding counties with more added each day!

• Hand in Hand provided 16% of the total contributions to Community Kitchen in Bloomington in 2009, making the program the largest individual donor to that agency.

Community Impact

The project creates an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to demonstrate their contributions to community building through meaningful volunteer employment. The project teaches the community about the ability of everyone to make a difference. The level of awareness and commitment to social needs in Bloomington is growing exponentially through participant involvement.

Community Resources

Stone Belt is honored to have received a 2007 grant from the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County (Bloomington, Indiana) in order to support and expand the Hand in Hand Project. Additional expenses for the project are funded through the Stone Belt operating budget, and through generous and visionary individual donors.
