The Stone Belt Arts Program provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to expand their capacity for self-expression, contribute to the beautification of the community, develop new life skills and work professionally in the arts.
Creative exploration provides an outlet for self expression, identity transformation and the sharing of one’s personal story. Stone Belt envisions “the arts” very broadly – including visual, performing and culinary arts – and strives to provide a diverse offering of experiences through its education programming. The goal of Stone Belt’s art exploration programming is to bring individuals with disabilities together with talented community members for in-depth learning and collaboration.
Stone Belt arts education includes:
• Full-time Visual Arts Educator
• Dedicated Visual Arts Studio
• Artists-in-Residence mini-course program
• Public performances in cooperation with area theatre and civic groups
Through our Arts program, individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to work as professional artists through the sale of their original art works. Individual artists have become locally and regionally known, and their works are sought after by discerning collectors.
Artists create in various media, including mixed-media mosaics, water colors, wood and pastels. Original art works – as well as prints, note cards and collectible items featuring artist designs – are available for purchase:
• permanent gallery at Stone Belt’s headquarters in Bloomington
• extended holiday season gallery sale
• exhibits in local and regional businesses
• comissions available
