Performers prepare for big show Feb. 23-24

Showcase shares stories, talents of people with developmental disabilities

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Jan. 26, 2018) — Stone Belt Arc, a nonprofit organization providing supports to individuals with disabilities, presents the biennial I AM YOU performance at 7:30 p.m. February 23 and 24 at Bloomington Playwrights Project.

The show features monologues, skits and performances written and practiced over the course of the past year by 12 Stone Belt clients under the supervision of volunteer director David Vornholt, a Stone Belt direct support professional and student at Indiana University.

I AM YOU provides people with disabilities the opportunity to share their stories and showcase their talents. Participation in a professional theater production is a chance to demonstrate to the community that all individuals have stories to share and have artistic skills, dreams and aspirations.

The participating Stone Belt clients are Jacob Johns, Jeff Stillions, Bryson Wrightsman, Marylin Chitwood, Anna Harner, Julia Adams, Jessica Walker, Tommy Cunningham, Nick Parsley, Thomas Phillips, Amber Teulker and Carla Mann. The clients represent all three areas served by Stone Belt, including Bedford, Columbus, and Bloomington.

Stone Belt began in 1959, making it the oldest and largest agency of its kind in south-central Indiana, offering educational, residential, employment support and clinical and health services for more than 1,600 clients in Monroe, Lawrence, Bartholomew and surrounding counties. Stone Belt’s mission, in partnership with the community, is to prepare, empower and support people with developmental disabilities and their families to participate fully in the life of the community.
