Stone Belt's Life Skills Enrichment program helps individuals with disabilities reach their personal goals by providing instruction and support in learning functional skills. Instruction is provided through community participation, community volunteerism, interactive classroom instruction, personal care and work skills attainment.
To the maximum extent possible, skills are taught in off-site, natural settings. Community-based instruction helps the individuals to gain natural supports and inclusion in the community.
All instruction focuses on clients following a daily and weekly schedule and practice active teaching, a method of teaching that involves explanation and teaching of common skills that are routine.
As with all the programs at Stone Belt, a person-centered plan is utilized in determining which activities in the Life Skills Enrichment program he/she will participate in. At annual and quarterly conferences the client and/or staff discuss the interests and options available.
Activities are offered on a group or individual basis. Individuals with higher needs may receive one-on-one staffing. For higher functioning clients, classes and group activities are staffed at 3 to 7 clients per staff member.
