How does the system work?

How long has Stone Belt been around?

Stone Belt was founded in 1958 by a group of families with children with developmental disabilities. At the time, doctors advised families to send their children to institutions. These parents wanted more for their children, so Stone Belt begins. Learn more.

Who do you serve?

Stone Belt provides a variety of services for children and adults. For adults with developmental disabilities, Stone Belt provides residential, educational, employment services and mental health supports. Stone Belt's Milestones clinic specializes in persons with disabilities as well as children, adolescents, young adults and their families.

How big is Stone Belt?

Stone Belt provides services to more than 1,300 individuals with disabilities throughout south central Indiana. Stone Belt also employs near 500 people, making it the 5th largest employer in Monroe County.

How are services paid for?

Most services are paid for with third party reimbursement from Medicaid and other state and federal government sources. We also seek out other private funding from grants, United Way, and individual and corporate donors. Learn more about becoming a Stone Belt donor.

What geographic areas do you serve?

Stone Belt offers services in Monroe, Lawrence, Bartholomew and surrounding counties.  

Has Stone Belt received any awards or certifications?

Stone Belt has maintained accreditation from CARF (formerly known as the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), which offers a prestigious accreditation for rehabilitation facilities. In addition, Stone Belt is affiliated with The Arc of Indiana, The Arc of the US, IN-ARF (formerly known as the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities) as well as being a United Way agency.

How can I get involved?

You can help further the mission of Stone Belt in a variety of ways. Provide financial support, apply for a job supporting people with developmental disabilities, diversify your workforce or contract work through Stone Belt's Manufacturing Services.
