Trish Ierino, President
Current President. Trish joined the board in 2009. She is Assistant Vice President of Sales and Services Branch Network at the IU Credit Union. She has been involved in banking since 1976 and moved to Bloomington in 2006 from Northwest Indiana. She is the sister of Cheryl Thompson, who receives Stone Belt services in Bloomington. Trish is a graduate of Leadership Bloomington, attends Faith Lutheran Church, and is a member of Toastmasters.
Justin Harrison, Vice-President
Current Vice-President. Justin learned of Stone Belt in his early career in advertising. Later, while in law school, he was inspired by his friend and classmate, a former employee of Stone Belt, to get involved in early efforts to create a disability law clinic at IU Maurer School of Law. After some time in Chicago practicing law, he moved back to Bloomington and practices with Andrews Harrell Mann Carmin and Parker. Soon after arriving in Bloomington, Justin reached out and became involved as a volunteer with Stone Belt. Justin is a native of Denver, CO and a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He is married with two young children.
Bill Bartley, Treasurer
Bill has
been working the last 15 years as an Electronic Technician and Data
Acquisition Engineer for various Indy Car Racing Teams. In 2007 he and
his family moved to Bloomington and opened the Indiana Running Company, a
retail store in downtown Bloomington. The running store became a
supporter of the Stone Belt “Run with Me 5K” event. That is how Bill
became familiar with our staff and clients. Bill hopes to help Stone
Belt raise community awareness and achieve its goals.
Nola Bloemendaal, Secretary
Nola joined the board in 2009. She has lived in Bloomington since 2005 with her children, Evan and Blake, and husband, Randy, who coaches the IU Tennis Team. Nola also serves on the board of Down Syndrome Family Connection, which she and other parents started in 2006. Nola’s son, Blake, was involved with Stone Belt’s First Steps services.
Tony Armstrong
Tony joined the Stone
Belt Board of Directors in 2010. Tony is a “neighbor” of Stone Belt. He
serves as President and CEO of the Indiana University Research and
Technology Corp., and manages the Indiana University Innovation Center
(across the parking lot from Stone Belt's Bloomington offices). Prior to
joining the IURTC, Tony was Executive Director/General Counsel for the
Indiana 21st Century Research & Technology Fund, and later served in
the Indiana Office of Management and Budget.
Sarah Baumgart
Sarah is a retired former Executive Director of Development & Alumni Relations at the Indiana University School of Education. Sarah joined the board of directors in 2011 after serving five years on the Development Committee. Sarah says "It’s an honor, privilege and fun to be part of an excellent organization devoted to very important people in our community. I am so impressed with the professionalism and compassion of Stone Belt’s leadership and staff. The smiling faces that greet me when I visit tell it all.” In addition to her volunteer work, Sarah looks forward to more time for travel, sailing and hiking with her husband Bill Lozowski during their retirement.
Vicki Borrelli
Before rejoining the board in 2011, Vicki had ten years of previous Stone Belt board service and ten years of service on the Human Rights Committee. Vicki has taught for the school system in Monroe County for twenty years and has now gone through a substantial change in life and is working as a System Analyst for a contractor for Crane. She has three teenage children, one of whom is in college studying to be a social worker.
Natalie Brewington
Natalie is a Monroe County native, IU graduate and former Stone Belt employee, having worked for both Joan Burton and Elbert Johns. She is married to Mike Brewington and is a stay-at-home mom with two teenage children, one of whom has autism spectrum disorder. Natalie has been a board member for two years.
Charles Burch
A Stone Belt board member since 2008, Charles is proud to be a member of the board and appreciates all the good work Stone Belt accomplishes. His oldest son receives services from Stone Belt. Charles has taught at Eastern-Greene Schools for many years. His wife Rhonda teaches at Bloomfield Jr/Sr High School. They own a tree farm in Eastern Greene County.
Elizabeth Davidson
Betty joined the board in 2009, she is a retired special education teacher from Monroe County. At one point in her career, she substituted at Stone Belt when it was a school. She is originally from Michigan, is married and has two children. She is involved in the Council for Exceptional Children, Tri Kappa, and early inclusion programs.
Catherine Gray
Catherine is a clinical faculty member of the Indiana University School of Education. A native of Texas, she has lived in Bloomington since 1987 and is active with various disability-related groups in the community. She has joined the Stone Belt Board with a great deal of enthusiasm and admiration for the organization. She is the mother of three children, including twin girls, one of whom has disabilities. Her step-daughter also has special needs as well. She has become a strong advocate for her children in seeking the most effective supports in a complex system.
Jacqueline Hall
Babette has been the client representative on the board since 2007. With minimal supports, she lives in her own apartment in Bloomington and currently works in Stone Belt’s Life Sciences manufacturing area. Babette is very active with the Monroe County Self-Advocates, a local group that advocates for and raises awareness of disability related issues. In 2008 she voiced her story at Stone Belt’s “I Am You” – a monologue performance held at the Bloomington Playwrights Project.
Anne Higley
Anne works in communications for the Center on Community Living and Careers at the Indiana Institute for Disabilities. Currently, she’s serving on Stone Belt’s Legislative Advocacy Committee as a community representative. Before moving to Bloomington five years ago, she founded and led the East Central Illinois Autism Support Group. Anne and her husband Eric have a teenage son with high functioning autism and a young adult daughter with Asperger’s. Both are clients of Stone Belt’s Milestones clinic.
Phil Meyer
Past President. President from 2006 to 2008, and Board Secretary before that. Married with three teenage children, one Jacqueline Hallof whom is starting to receive services from Stone Belt. Phil is Station Manager of WTIU-TV (PBS), winner of Regional Emmy Awards, PBS Development Awards and the PBS Communications Professional of the Year in 2000. Phil has served on numerous advisory groups, task forces and boards for public television, education and services for people with disabilities.
Patrick Robbins
Patrick is the President of the Lawrence County Arc and serves as its representative to the Stone Belt Board. He has been a board member for many years and has been involved with LARC since the mid-nineties. Patrick is retired from his medical distribution business which his family operated for over 30 years. He lives in Bedford where he serves on the City Council along with other volunteer activities. He and his wife Sharon have three children and three grandsons.
Winston Shindell
Winston was executive director of the Indiana Memorial Union for 23 years, retiring in 2004. He moved to Bloomington from Oklahoma for the position. The Association of College Unions International - Region 9 has named their New Professional Award after Winston. This award recognizes a professional in the region who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of ACUI during his or her first five years of full-time service in the field. Winston has served on the Board of Volunteers in Medicine and the Community Foundation and is a Past President of the Bloomington Rotary Club. His wife Sue is also active in community volunteer work.
Angie Timan
Angie serves on the Stone Belt Board as the representative of LARC (the Lawrence County Arc), a partner agency to Stone Belt in Bedford. Angie works as the Family and Consumer Science Instructor at North Lawrence Career Center. She has over 28 years experience in education, and is the FCCLA Advisor. A native of Michigan, Angie is proud to now live in Indiana and to devote her volunteer time to strengthening the position of disabilities services in south central Indiana.
Doug Wilson
Doug works in development and communications at the South Central Community Action Program. He was previously employed in development and alumni relations at the Indiana University School of Education, in public relations at Hirons &Company and was a reporter and editor at The Herald-Times. He has also worked as a grant writer for nonprofit organizations in Greenville, South Carolina and Indianapolis. A Bloomington native, Doug is a long-time admirer of the life-changing assistance Stone Belt provides to people with developmental disabilities and their families. He is married to Julie Nizamoff.
