Beginning Opportunities to Offer Student Training

What is Stone Belt BOOST?
BOOST is a training and employment program offered by Stone Belt for new high school graduates — either work-bound or collegebound — who want a position helping people with disabilities.

BOOST is designed to provide young graduates with not only the training that we offer all our new employees, but with additional training to "boost" their knowledge of Stone Belt, developmental disabilities, essential on-the-job skills and general good work habits.

Why work for Stone Belt?
Stone Belt is a not-for-profit organization that provides education and support for persons with disabilities, as well as working with families of young children with and without disabilities to foster maximum growth and development. We are the oldest and largest organization of our kind in South Central Indiana, providing residential, employment, manufacturing, life skills training, parent and child development and psychological services to help our clients actively participate in the community.

Who is eligible for BOOST?
BOOST is a great program for any high school graduate who likes to help others, whether planning to go directly into the workforce full-time or attending college.

Why choose BOOST?
Start as a Direct Support Trainee in BOOST making $7.50 per hour with an increase to $7.80 after four weeks of training and shadowing.

BOOST is a great way to start your career in the social service field whether you are in search of full-time employment or want experience to compliment your college major.

Advanced levels of BOOST also allow students to earn tuition reimbursement for college-level classes at Ivy Tech such as writing, mathematics, psychology, sociology and communication.

What will I do in BOOST?
BOOST starts as a 10-week training and shadowing program. Weeks 1 and 2 consist of training classes such as Developmental Disabilities Awareness, Sign Language, CPR, and more. Weeks 3 and 4 consist of shadowing in our residential and day programs. The last day of week 4 ends with a Celebrating Success Party.

The last 6 weeks of the program are spent working in our residential and day programs.

What do I do after BOOST?
After completion of BOOST, Direct Support Trainees may want to transfer into a full time position within Stone Belt. Others who are part time or full time college students may want to transfer into a part time position, or just plan to work during school breaks.

How do I apply for BOOST?
Students should complete an employment application that can be downloaded here.

Application deadlines:
Friday, May 19     June 12, 2006 Training
